Practical guidance for printable QR models

Use these starting principles before sending a QR model to your slicer. The goal is to connect QR density, physical dimensions and export choices instead of treating a digital QR and a printed QR as the same problem.

Size the physical QR from module size, not only overall width

Two QR codes at the same 37 mm width can have very different physical module sizes if one matrix is denser. A useful workflow is to watch module size as the payload changes, then increase the overall model size when the modules fall below the target for the selected nozzle and layer profile.

Raised and Recessed solve different physical problems

Raised geometry places the dark QR modules above the base and is visually straightforward for two-color workflows. Recessed geometry engraves the QR into the base and must preserve enough material below the cavities. Neither mode is universally better; the choice depends on the object, material contrast and printing strategy.

Use STL for simplicity and 3MF when package structure helps

STL is a broadly supported mesh format. 3MF can carry a richer model package and can preserve separate object roles in the current exporter. The right choice depends on what your slicer supports and whether that additional structure is useful downstream.
